For those that aren’t from Bristol, the title may need some explaining, Yurt Lush is a play on the Bristolian phrase ‘Gert Lush’ which means ‘Really Good’ ! Bristolian elocution over, my latest date night was in a cafe/Bar/venue
that has been set up in a Mongolian Yurt and placed in a Car park next to Temple Meads Train Station. Okay so far it’s possibly not sounding particularly inspiring but Yurt Lush belongs to the established Bristol based team ‘Eat drink Bristol Fashion’ the Director Josh Eggleton is Chef Patron of multi-award winning pub the Pony & Trap in Chew Magna and all meat comes via the organic community farm.
known for its breakfast and lunch menus, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Yurt Lush serve a themed night dinner. Thursday’s being curry night, I am not the biggest curry fan so I wasn’t overly excited. But I have to say the tastes and flavours involved in these curries were exquisite! We choose the beef rendang and the vegetarian which was a mix of aubergine, sweet potatoes in a tomatoes and coconut sauce, it came served with pilaf rice, sag aloo, poppadoms and dips. For me it was plenty but old ‘greedy date’ needed more and the waitress was more than happy to provide some extra rice and sag. I know really we should have had beer or cider (keeping things West Country) but I fancied wine so we had an excellent bottle of Rioja.
The outside has some lovely wooden tables and chairs for al fresco eating and drinking, not the best of views but sometimes us city dwellers have to make do! My only gripe was that (and I know it’s a tent) but the place was a little cold, it would have been much more cosy if the central wood burner had been lit. That aside, Yurt Lush is Gert Lush!
