The MEATliquor opened in the Stokes Croft area of Bristol last November and has been extremely popular with the ‘trendy/grungy’ set. For some reason it’s taken me a while to get round to trying it, even though I regularly use the arty Cube cinema just around the corner, so with the determination of trying somewhere new off we went.
It’s a kinda rough ‘n’ ready institution which started life as a London burger van in 2009, followed by a pop up restaurant in New Cross and then a permanent opening in Hoxton. They now have a number of restaurants around the country, although they are keen to make each one individual to avoid the branding of a chain. In short it’s a great combination of Burger and Cocktails – although there are of course other drinks available and to appease the local demographic, vegetarian options. In the keeping of restaurant individuality the owners were very smart in commissioning the local (although he now lives in London) graffiti artist Inkie to completely spray paint the interior with graffiti . When you first go inside it’s a bit of an optic rush and definitely unique for Bristol.
Onto the Menu, well me and the ‘Date’ went for the established Burger, but oh no we didn’t stop there, with eye’s bigger than….. we added fries, Greek salad and deep fried Mac n Cheese. It was a school night so we wimped on the cocktails, foolish I know! I have to say the burger was ‘fine’ just ‘fine’, not good, not bad, just fine. The fries (not chips) were fries, I only ordered them because I was hungry and I don’t really like fries. The Greek Salad, was a good combination of fresh, zingy and tasty ingredients. Now the deep fried Mac n Cheese…….that was wild, so bad and yet so, so good! In fact next time I go I am just going to order the Greek salad with Deep fried Mac n Cheese.
What did I wear? It was a cold and miserable night and so the faux fur had to have a final outing before being put away for the summer. Because it was so cold everything I wore except the bag was old but where possible I have tried to find alternatives.
