Midi dresses are the perfect trans-seasonal item. Layered under or over and paired with an ankle or knee high boot, they add a femininity to the long (or so it seems!) and dark months ahead until Spring arrives. At which point, the thermal layers can be discarded and its warm enough to just throw over a biker or tailored jacket and footwear becomes a heel, a loafer or a trainer. Onwards to summer and its ‘no jacket required’, bare legs and sandals. Hold on a second whilst I just dream of sunshine!
Right, back to reality, if you are ‘over’ the sales, new dresses are arriving daily in store and online. Print especially floral is going to be more vintage as we move into the Spring/Summer trends, My fav so far is the floral print crepe dress above, from Arket . The allover print is really quite special, it’s an original mid-20th century print, created for couture silk fabrics by artists at the F. Ducharne art studio in Paris. The top of the dress is fitted and buttoned, with a fluid skirt the waist, which gives a really feminine shape.
If florals aren’t your thing, and I must admit, I struggle with them, then there are lots of other prints to choose from. The celestial prints from before Christmas are still around and I particularly like the diamond print from & Other Stories below.
My other picks from the high street are:
