10 exciting jackets to take you through to summer

Spring/Summer 16 jackets and coats

So far so chilly! The English climate being what it is, a spring/summer jacket or coat is a staple in every wardrobe. If yours is in need up of an update then you are in luck as this season there are some great options. Big this year is the bomber which is available just about everywhere,

(see previous blogs Bristol Fashion week and  M&S ). In the land of my dreams I would own the silver metallic Gucci, but instead I found this Schott yellow one (also available in pink) which reminds me of my youth when all the cute boys owned a khaki version! Metallics, florals, block colours, lightweight, silk, oriental, you name it there is a bomber to be found.

If a bomber is not your style, then there are still plenty other short jackets to chose from. The ‘Chanel style’ tweed is still a favourite, as is the ‘boho’ suede. For chilly days and they do seem to be in abundance at the moment!  I have also spotted biker jackets in lovely lush summer colours,  Karen Millen has a delicious butter soft one in white.

Military seems to hover as a trend, M&S have this smart belted linen version, bring it bang up to date with this seasons  cropped flares ( J Crew have some perfect linen ones at the moment). For a more casual military style, Maison Scotch have several, perfect for festival dressing.

A dressier option is the summer coat.  Great for the  ‘less than perfect shape’ in that it skims rather than hugs. Left undone it draws the eye length ways for a slimming silhouette. Look for something slightly tailored for defining a waist, like the Zara frock coat above.  Florals, prints and stripes are all updates this season and give a jacket or coat a real statement.

Black tailored jackets are always a wardrobe staple but look for something with a quirk for added interest, such as the embroidered version above to update your work wear. Gingham is having a micro trend moment, in a tailored jacket not only does it add a fresh look to office wear but also works casually with jeans at the weekend.

My picks above from left to right are:

Linen belted khaki jacket, M&S

Gold toned linen frock coat, Zara

Schott NYC yellow flight jacket,  available at Stylebop

Camel buttoned suede jacket, &Other Stories

Textured striped cotton jacket, Windser London

Orange tweed, LK Bennett

Double breasted gingham blazer, J CREW

Yellow statement jaquard, Halluber

Embroidered wool blazer, Hos Intropia

Festival army jacket, Maison Scotch
